The Sitemap Explorer fetches and parses any website's XML sitemap — giving you a structured view of every URL a site has declared for search engines. Paste a domain or sitemap URL, and within seconds you have a full inventory of pages, grouped by type, with last-modified dates where available.

It's the fastest way to understand a competitor's content structure, audit your own site's crawlable pages, or research which parts of a domain get regular content updates. No login required — just paste and explore.

Results are displayed in a sortable table and can be exported as JSON or CSV. The tool handles sitemap index files (which link to multiple child sitemaps), automatically expanding the full page list.

How it works

  1. Paste the root domain (e.g. example.com) or a direct sitemap URL (e.g. example.com/sitemap.xml).
  2. The tool fetches and parses the sitemap, expanding sitemap index files into their child sitemaps automatically.
  3. Results appear in a filterable table — URL, content type, last modified date (if provided by the site).
  4. Filter by URL pattern or content type to focus on blog posts, product pages, or specific subsections.
  5. Export as JSON or CSV for further analysis in a spreadsheet or SEO tool.

Use cases

  • Audit your own site's sitemap to find missing or incorrectly excluded pages before a launch.
  • Research a competitor's content structure — how many blog posts, products, or landing pages they publish.
  • Find outdated or rarely updated sections of a site that might be candidates for consolidation.
  • Identify high-priority pages on a site for a targeted link-building or content-gap analysis.
  • Monitor a publisher's sitemap weekly to catch new content before it ranks.
  • Verify that newly published pages appear in the sitemap after publishing on your CMS.

Frequently asked questions

What if the site doesn't have a sitemap?

The tool tries the standard locations (/sitemap.xml, /sitemap_index.xml) and follows robots.txt Sitemap directives. If none is found, you'll get an error message and no credits are spent.

Does this tool respect robots.txt?

Yes — the sitemap fetch follows robots.txt rules. If a sitemap URL is blocked by robots.txt, it won't be fetched, consistent with ethical scraping practice.

How many URLs can the tool handle?

Up to 5,000 URLs per sitemap or index expansion. Very large sites with tens of thousands of pages may be truncated; a note will appear when the limit is hit.

Is this tool free?

Yes — Sitemap Explorer is completely free to use with no account required. There are no credit costs and no daily limits.

Can I explore password-protected or staging sitemaps?

No — the tool only accesses publicly available sitemaps. Authenticated or IP-restricted sitemaps cannot be fetched.
